Doug Pullen should resign

31 Oct 2026

Paul Ray, Chadsmead ward councillor (Lib Dem) and Lib Dem leader, Lichfield District Council writes:

"I have seen that the Labour councillors on Lichfield District Council have called for Doug Pullen to resign as leader of the council.

I and the Lib Dem councillors on Lichfield District Council support that.

I do not say that from a party political stance or with any pleasure. But it is clear that there has been a total lack of grip at the council which has cost residents in their pocket and quality of area they live in.

Doug Pullen as leader needs to take responsibility and resign. Too much has gone wrong;

  • Huge overspend on the cinema project
  • Local Plan not delivered on time
  • Loss of chief executive
  • No building at all on the Birmingham Road Site

And then Doug Pullen keeps banging on about the leisure centre saying it is one of his achievements. But we all remember too well that Doug Pullen and the Conservatives never supported this project. It was the community’s campaign that forced him to change his mind and made this happen.

So all in all its time for Doug Pullen to go.”
