A Lib Dem view of health and social care

Morag Maclean is the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Armitage with Handsacre by-election on December 11. She says:

“After a lifetime working in Healthcare, as a Registered Nurse and then as an NHS manager including managing an elderly care rehabilitation unit, I have experience and I am passionate about supporting people through their health journey. We all know that the NHS and social services are struggling to meet the demands upon them, but if we or our families fall sick, we need effective services to help us. Sometimes the systems simply do not work efficiently enough to give us the care that we need. 

“The Liberal Democrats are 100% behind the need to improve health and social care, and our national policies include higher wages for carers, funding for hospices and much better mental health services than currently exist. We pledge to work across political party lines to ensure these crucial improvements happen at a national level. 

“If I am elected on December 11 to represent Armitage with Handsacre in Lichfield District Council, these will be priority areas on which I will focus my attention, on behalf of this area where I and my own family live and work. 

“I cannot promise miracles, but I do promise to bring over 40 years of experience, and my commitment and dedication, to health and social care. I will work across political and organisational boundaries to investigate difficulties that you may be facing, and to reduce bureaucracy or other blocks, where they exist, to seamless first-class care. My experience has shown me that big improvements to our experience of health care can often be brought about by managerial commonsense and a willingness to find new ways to do things better. 

“Many of you in Armitage and Handsacre already know me and have pledged your vote to support me in seeing the Liberal Democrat voice become even stronger across our District. To those of you who I have yet to meet, please take the time to consider very carefully how your vote can bring change with integrity to Armitage with Handsacre ward, and the Lichfield District.”
